Except there are three flower arrangements, two entrances, and somebody has been waiting in the wrong hotel for twenty minutes.

Meanwhile, the lobby is carrying on with its usual business.

A newlywed couple is checking in with matching suitcases. A conference delegate is trying to remember the name of the man he's been speaking to for forty minutes. Two old friends have recognized one another across the room and are embracing with the kind of enthusiasm that makes everyone nearby look up.

And a little boy has discovered that the revolving door is considerably more entertaining than anything his parents have planned for the afternoon.

For hotel people, the lobby is a living, breathing thing. They know when the atmosphere changes. When a large group is about to arrive. When a guest needs assistance before they've worked up the courage to ask. When someone sitting alone would appreciate a conversation, and when they most certainly would not.

And somehow, amid the luggage carts, ringing telephones, misplaced room keys, and complicated human arrangements, it all works.

The gentleman waiting by the flowers has just discovered there are two hotels with the same name.
